Odor removal
How does professional odor removal work?
It works by getting rid of what’s holding the smell. That means finding the source, removing materials that absorbed it, like carpet pad, insulation or drywall, and cleaning the surfaces and ducts it settled on. Deodorizing treatments come last, to neutralize what’s left in the structure instead of masking it.
- Smoke odor after a fire
- Wildfire smoke odor
- Sewage and drain odors
- Pet urine odor
- Decomposition odor
- Musty and mildew smells
- Cigarette smoke in rentals
- Odors in HVAC ducts
Good to know
Why do odors come back after a deep clean?
Because the source is still in the building. Smoke, urine and decomposition soak into porous materials like carpet pad, subfloor, insulation and ductwork, and they release odor again when the air warms up or the humidity rises. Lasting odor removal means taking out or sealing what absorbed it.
Before you call
- Note where the smell is strongest and when it’s worse.
- Check for a dry floor drain or unused sink trap.
- Change the HVAC filter if smoke is the cause.
- Skip scented sprays; they make the source harder to find.
- Call (844) 623-3946 to set up an inspection.
From a customer
What did a customer say about a HEPA cleaning job?
That the crew stayed most of the day and went beyond what was asked. A customer had her garage HEPA-vacuumed and washed by Laura and Jake, and she wrote that the job still cost what was estimated. An office manager even came by to help her move things out of the way.
“They worked for the majority of the day, going far beyond expectations and the job still cost what was estimated.”
FAQ
Odor Removal Questions
Can you remove smoke odor without replacing everything?
Often, yes. Hard surfaces can be cleaned, and many fabrics can be professionally cleaned. Materials that soaked up heavy smoke, like insulation or some carpet pad, usually come out. Deodorizing then treats the framing and other surfaces that stay.
Do you clean air ducts as part of odor removal?
When the odor is in the ductwork, yes. Smoke and fine debris collect in ducts and spread through every room each time the system runs, so cleaning them is often what finally clears the smell.
How long does odor removal take?
A single room with a clear source might take a day or two. Smoke throughout a house, or decomposition that reached the subfloor, can take longer because materials have to come out and treatments need time to work.
Is fogging or ozone safe?
Deodorizing treatments are done in empty rooms with people and pets out, and the space is aired out before anyone goes back in. We explain what we’re using and how long to stay away before we start.
I bought a house that smells like smoke or pets. Can you help?
Yes. In a vacant house the work is simpler: carpets and pad often come out, walls and ducts get cleaned, and surfaces may be sealed before painting. We’ll tell you what’s likely to work before anything starts.

Which properties do we deodorize?
In homes, rentals and businesses across the North Bay and East Bay. Smoke odor jobs come in after house fires and wildfire seasons, and rental turnovers bring pet and cigarette odors. Our Petaluma and Hayward crews both do this work. Call (844) 623-3946 and describe the smell.
