Contents pack-out
What is a contents pack-out?
It’s moving your belongings out of the way of the restoration, carefully and on the record. Each room’s contents are photographed and inventoried, packed and moved to storage, cleaned if they were exposed to smoke, soot or water, and returned once the repairs are finished. The inventory also helps with your claim.

Good to know
Why pack everything out instead of working around it?
Because belongings in the way slow the work and get damaged by it. Demolition dust, drying equipment and crews moving in and out are hard on furniture and keepsakes. Packing out protects them, lets every room be dried and rebuilt properly, and gives you a clear list of what was there.
Before the pack-out
- Set aside medications, documents and valuables you want with you.
- Tell us about anything fragile, valuable or irreplaceable.
- Photograph rooms as they are, if you can.
- Ask your insurer what they need for a contents claim.
- Call (844) 623-3946 to schedule the pack-out.
The rules
What does California require of insurers on contents claims after a disaster?
More flexibility for families who lost everything. After a covered total loss in a declared state of emergency, the insurer can’t insist on its own inventory form and must accept a list that groups items by category. For a furnished primary home, it must also offer a contents payment without an itemized list.
60%Of the contents limit, up to $350,000, offered without itemizing after a disaster total loss
You can still file an itemized claim for more, up to the policy limit. These rules apply to total losses in declared emergencies; for everything else, a room-by-room inventory with photos is what supports the claim, and the Department of Insurance publishes a free guide to building one. Insurance Code §2061 · §10103.7 · CDI home inventory guide.
From a customer
How does a pack-out fit into a big job?
It’s one stage in a sequence. A family whose house flooded almost entirely while they were on vacation described it that way: a demo team, then a pack-up team, then a rebuild team, all from RestoreX. They wrote that they never had to go looking for other contractors along the way.
“The RestoreX demo team, pack up team, then rebuild team are conscientious, reliable, professional.”
FAQ
Pack-Out Questions
Where do my things go during the restoration?
To secure storage, inventoried by room so they come back to the right place. Items that need cleaning are cleaned before they’re stored or returned.
Can smoke-damaged belongings be cleaned?
Many can. Hard items, many fabrics and a lot of furniture clean up well. Some porous or delicate items don’t, and those are listed and photographed for your claim before anything is thrown away.
Do I get a list of what was packed?
Yes. The inventory records what came out of each room, with photos, and it’s what we use to bring everything back. It’s also useful paperwork for your insurance claim.
What if I need something while my belongings are in storage?
Call the office and tell us what you need. Because everything is inventoried, we can find it and get it to you.
